Question:

Air conditioning broken

I'm buying a used 02 Pontiac Grand Am GT with 81,000 miles on it. It's got a moon roof, leather, and monsoon sound system with almost no scratches. The buyer is asking for $6900. According to KBB it should be around $5900, is it a little overpriced?

Also, the air conditioning is acting really weird. On nods 1-3, it will not work at all, but on 4 and 5, it works well. But 4 is too loud and I wouldn't really use it most of the time. Would this be just a switch problem and can be fixed easily? Or is it a mechanical issue? Thanks.

  1. It may have a burned out  blower motor resistor that keeps it from blowing on the higher settings. If so it wouldn't blow on heat either. Fairly cheap fix. The resistor is located in the plenum (Duct-work) close to the blower motor and has several wires connected to it.

As to the price, if $5900 is KBB retail I would say $6900 is too much. ...Good Luck...

Additional: The price for the blower motor resistor for your vehicle varies from $17 to $40 at Advance Auto Parts. The labor to install depends on the accessibility. Normally very easy. Usually only 2 screws secure it and the wires just clip on. ...Good Luck Again...
