Air conditioning does not go off after pressing the off switch.?

Hi. I have a 1988 260E Mercedes and I had the air conditioning on but then when I wanted to turn it off, it would not go off. I pressed the off switch but the fan stayed on and kept delivering cold air even though i switched the thermostat to maximum hot air just to see if it did anything. I don't know what is wrong with it and every time i turn on the car, the air conditioning is on. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

you need a mechanic with access to mercedes trouble shooting guides we cannot guess anymore the vehicles are too technical now

It is common to bypass the pressure switch, sounds like someone forgot to unplug it.
