I need to cool off an 11' x 13' room whose only windows are a large picture window and 2 casements that measure 20" wide and 55" high. Are there any options?

  1. go to danby.com  or walmart and check out their 5000 btu A/C  that s all you need in power.

see what sizes they carry and if they can accomodate the opening in your window

they usually are 17 wide by 13.5 inches high   they also have accordian wings to fill the extra gap.

i just measured the one in my son's room,   his room is 12x18 and 5000 btu's is plenty to cool it off.

paid 99 bux for it brand new. 3 years ago    still going strong

  2. You can take off the casement window sash. Set your window unit in front of the window build a stand so it sets even with the bottom of the hole of the window.

Now take some heavy cardboard and cut it so a pc. fits on all 4 sides of ac unit. Make 3 sides of ac unit line up with bottom, top,and 1 side of window. The remaining side of cardboard will need to be on an angle to line up with the smaller width of the window.

Now cut a pc. of plywood to fit the top portion of window frame down to the top of window ac hole. Paint it to match house. If this is temporary you are ok, if it will be there all summer substitute the cardboard with 1/4" plywood.

To finish it off put screenwire over the lower hole where ac unit blows out through window hole.

Put pan or tub under unit to catch water from ac unit.

Caulk all gaps/cracks with 100% silicone.

Make your inside stand sturdy to hold the ac unit at the right height.
