Question:

Air conditioning in my car wont work!?

So in early April I found a leak on the hose, so I replaced it. A/C was working fine. Last night, my battery went totally dead so I got a new one. But now my car only blows out hot air.

I think there must be freon in it because the container is freezing cold. And there is coolant in ine radiator and over flow container. Whats wrong?

  1. it may be either the compressor or the condensor. (Condensor can be found near the front passenger seat). Since you just change the hose, i presume your mechanic will top up the gas for you)

let you engine run without the aircon (open the bonnet) and the stand near the engine. Let someone turn on the aircon, and listen if there is any '"click"sound. if not, your compressor is spoilt

  2. Ok.  First off engine coolant has nothing to do with air conditioning which eliminates some of your target areas.  Some things to check on your own.  Is the AC compressor engaging.  There is a clutch in the compressor that engages and disengages at certain points of pressure in the system (AC is compressed freon)  Start the car and turn the AC on.  You should hear a click when the compressor engages.  Or look under the hood at the compressor with the system on.  The belt will pull the pulley for the compressor but in the middle of the pulley is the clutch.  (compare it to a tire...The pulley is the tire and the clutch would be the rim)  If it does not engage, the clutch will not be turning...   it could be a bad compressor OR low freon level.  Best thing to do is take it to a mechanic and have him check the system for leaks.  Be prepared to spend a decent amount of money on repairs as AC parts tend to be pricey depending on what may need to be replaced.

  3. buy a new one

  4. I'd get a set of gauges and check to see what the high and low pressure readings are and go from there.
