  1. Also learn to write at least at a high school level, allowing everyone to understand what you are trying to convey. It doesn't have to be 100% correct, but your writing skills are the first thing many people see. If these skills don't have any accuracy, neither will you as far as your audience is concerned.

Most of the guys in my career field have had the FAA accident investigation course. It's very interesting and quite an eye-opener. Good luck.

  2. patience---most accident causes aren't apparent and take up to years to solve. there could be up to several billions of pieces that must be analyzed one by one.

availability----you can be called halfway around the world to investigate an accident

observant---usually, at crash sites, there is not much that is readily identifiable.

organized--- easy to misplace or misinterpret something, especially when the plane already has over a million parts and crashed and shattered into several billion more.

for education, just focus on whatever your first choice was, hope it works out. there isn't a very specific field you need to study for to be a ACI. afterwards, if it didn't work out, apply and if you seem to have potential they will give you a few courses to learn all about it.

  3. To be an air crash investigator you'll definitely going to have to know alot about airplanes.

  4. Well, the FAA tends to hire only people with extensive mechanical or engineering experience. For basic positions in the FAA, they look for 5-7 years experience as a mechanic on a specific type of aircraft (general, commercial, corporate). Engineers are probably hired with the same guidelines, though perhaps with fewer years required. I think it's mostly a "what-you-know" situation. If a crash occurs and you're known to have extensive knowledge about that aircraft, you might be getting a phone call.

  5. In order to investigate accident, you have to understand what is there, how it is supposed to work, and how it came to not work. Usually this involves several specialities as many systems can be involved (ice on wing? engine trouble? structural dammage? improper maintenance? faulty wiring? crew error?), but all incur a common requirement: technological expertise. You need to be an aerospace engineer first.
