Air filter and furnace?

anyone here know how 3M Filtrate air filters work? Do they replace the filter in the furnace? And if so in order to get the full effects of the filter does my furnice need to be on? I have a California home but I don't even see a funice it is from the late 60s, but i do see an ac system. Is that a furnice?

  1. Yes your AC unit (or heat pump as it may be) is your air handler.  on the return side of the duct work near the unit itself you should find the air filter.  pull it out and it should have the measurements written on it.  if not, use a tape measure.  this is the size filter you need for your unit.

    To get the full effect of this air filter you don't necessarily need to run the AC system, but just turn the blower (or fan) for the system on.  this will pull the air through the filter and blow it back out through the registers cleaned.


  2. Your furnace is the air handler that produces your air flow. They can have heat strips in them but not all do. Locate the filter in the return on the air handler and the size will be marked on it. Replace with same size and yes the filters work extreamly well but since they catch particles measured in microns they need replacement often.
