Air filter materials?

I'm thinking about making air filters for my computer. I'm planning on soldering the filter's frame together, but what can I use for the filter itself? Basically, I need to know the name of different materials that are used for filtering so I can check it out at the hardware store.

What I want the material to do:

1. Filter dust and hair: heavy dust problem in my area, and I have a golden retriever.

2. Washable: not that big a deal. If it's cheap, I can just throw it away when it gets clogged.

3. Restrict air flow: I installed a PCI exhaust fan, so this should help with air flow, so I can get a thicker material that keeps out more dust.

Any suggestions?

My husband works for an air filter company & they will sell the media to people who walk in off the street. Just go to dex on line or other yellow pages on line & type in air filters. They can tell you if they sell to the public & also give you the merv rating on the diffrent types of media that they use to help you decide what air flow you want.
