I was gonna clean out my crf's air filter, but i noticed it was very damp or even oily. Is that normal for an air filter on a dirtbike, or could it be that gas got into the filter when the bike tumbled?

  1. Ive always thought filters were suppose to be oily to help catch the dirt and dust from getting into your engine.

  2. The oily residue is normal. It's put on there to help trap dirt. They sell a kit to clean and re-lube your air filter.

Or you could use gas to clean it and just buy the filter oil. Although people will say not to use gas because it'll break down the glue in the filter but I've never had a problem. Just rinse it with soap and water when you're done. A good trick for applying the oil is to use a plastic bag. Put a little oil in the bag and smear it around a little. Then throw the filter in the bag and work the oil into the filter. No mess! Be careful not to over oil. Good luck!

  3. it should be damp with oil. clean it in water, spray it with filter lube, and ride off........

  4. What has this got to do with " RACING " ?
