Air intake upgrade for honda vtx 1300

I just bought a honda vtx 1300 and am considering buuying a air cleaner upgrade and jet kit for the carb.

how much can I expect to gain from the upgrade?

any favorite brands I should look at?

  2. If you want to get more air into the engine figure it has to get out about as fast. Yes with the mods you mentioned  changing the pipes is necessary to increase air in. You can improve the performance without resorting to extreme noise. After you go through $1200 or so, I doubt you'll realize 4 horsepower at the rear wheel.

    Why didn't you buy an 1800 VTX?

  3. velocity stacks look cool and work well, you will have to richen up you fuel mixture. that means having it remapped.Also will need a differant exhaust. might gain about 8 horsepower.Power and speed are relavant to money spent. what you need to realize is an engine is basically an air pump.the more air you can flow through it the more power it will make.So if you really want to make useable power you need to get a cam with more lift and more valve duration.Valve duration refers to haw many degrees of crankshaft rotation both your intake and exhaust valves are open.The more duration the better.you also want to port the intake and polish and port the exhaust.
