So can someone tell me how often the air guard is being depolyed over seas?

Is it something worth joining? Are the benefits good?

I'm not looking for someone to make it sound like the greatest thing ever, if i want that, i'll go to a recruiter! I just want the reality of it!

  1. Well you need to give us more information. What kind of unit will you join, what AFSC are you looking at, what state do you live in? all those need to be answered first before your initial question can be answered. If you're worried about deploying then don't enlist.

Well I imagine Idaho has tuition assistance, extra money just for guard members, at least PA does. I'm not sure what kind of bases are out there though so if you can look into that, that will give you an idea as to what jobs are there. email me when you get that info and I'll help you out.

I looked at the website there's a fighter squadron/wing and a AMC unit of some sort plus the GSU.

You'll get retirement after 20yrs, plus the Thrift Savings Plan. The experience is different for everyone but you'll get top notch training. The only thing in the civilian that was affected, was that I got more jobs.

Go to the Air Force website and find a job that interest you, SF(cop), medical, mechanic something like that. Not everyone deploys as much but if you're attached to the fighter unit you could deploy a fair amount. If you're a cop you deploy more often than anyone on the base. Like I said email me, I spent 4 years in the guard and loved every second of it.

Security Forces are Air Force cops that also act kinda like infantry at times.

  2. If you don't want to be deployed then don't enlist.  It sounds like you want all of the benefits without doing any of the work.

Don't you think the ANG deploys moron?  It is part of the military.   Why else would you ask?  You want someone to say, "No sweetheart, the ANG doesn't deploy and you get great benefits!"  Nice try.

  3. deployment has alot to do with where you live. what state are you in? are there alot of military bases? remember that you are a part of the military and  can be put on orders to serve at any time, if you are needed.

my husband is a former marine and is now in the national guard. he finds the need to serve his country is very deep. he enjoys still being a part of the brotherhood the military has but also enjoys being able to be home with his family. i guess whether it is worth it or not is dependant on what you want out of it.

if you are talking medical/dental benefits, you need to realize that you do have to pay for them (discounted of course) if you are on reserve status. if you are activated then they are fully paid.

you can get the gi bill for reserves which will pay for your college but look into that to find out how many years you have to sign up for to get it. i do believe you have to sign up for 6 yrs for that since you are reserve.

i am not really sure how to answer your question with out more details on what you want to get from it.
