i scored an M-47 A-63 G-68 E-64 QT-66

so am i "shoein" for an air traffic controller? granted that i graduate tech school and work hard etc, are these scores good enough to compete with my fellow airmen? or should i think about taking the asvab again and scoring higher? my recruiter says their is no risk in taking it again, and i am elligle to do so if i wish (i took mine last feb of 07) anyway, when do i get my job? after basic? or at the MEPS? do i have a job that is lower than air traffic controller and work my way up? or do i go to tech school for 3 months and become one? is there any difference in rank between myself (after graduating tech school (22 weeks) ) and someone else who has only graduated after 6 weeks? is nicotene gum allowed in basic? and is smoking permitted on base at all? i know i should quit, and i want to, its just so hard. ive cut out other dependencies like caffiene (coffee and sodas) tv, internet any luxury that i know i wont have during basic. also what tips and little nuggets of wisdom do you have to share with me, for my time in basic. things like dont carry lots of money, instead bring a roll of quarters, dont bring an electric shaver... things like that? im really excited about joining and looking forward to serving our country. also... whats with the extended BMT? 8 1/2 weeks now, as compared to 6 weeks, why? thanks in advance

  1. just go and enlist

OH Jay you should stick to what you know the Air  Force does not work like the Army.....   OH yes it was the Army Air Corps    not core... and it is AIT not IET...    hmm were you even ever in the Army?

    or this one...

    Good luck!

  3. there is a risk in taking it again.

if you score lower that score will stick, your latest score is the one that counts, unlike the ACT where the highest score counts.

ASVAB scores do NOT count once you get your job (you will select your AFSC at MEPS after DEP'ing in)

ASVAB scores have no effect on your promotion rates.

Your rank MIGHT be different, might not, depends on alot of things like college, ROTC, etc. But generally, the longer your in the higher your rank.

You will get a "packet" of things when you DEP in, somewhere in there will be a list of 'do's' and 'donts' to bring to basic.

BMT is longer now for 2 reasons, A.) the airforce wants to look tougher  and B.) they need to do more anti-terrorism/force protection training as the NEEDS of the airforce have changed.

You will NOT be allowed nicotene gum in basic. You can smoke on base in certain designated sections, but youll have to give it up in basic anyway, so theres no point in picking up the habit again.

    Goodluck.

  4. you scored points already so what problems could you face? live on a tight & strict buget. spend the smallest denominations first and hold onto the bigger dollers hit the books harder  train your mind and body eye hand coordination e.c.t electric dry shave is best then you have less stress with soreness from wet shave. exel at what your best at to get the points. stop smoking it will free up the smaller blood vessels to the brain and save you money you will sleep better too

  5. You will not be a air traffic controller after basic.after basic you will got to school for your "mos"   Military Occupational something I don't remeber what the s stands for sorry but after you go to school for your job and provided you meet the requironments then you will receive your orders that will tell you where you'll be stationed and what unit you'll be placed with. I was in the Army and I'm pretty sure the Air force is erisimilar since in actuality they are  or at least were originally a semi branch of the Army Air core.     I was in the army and we were permitted to have nicotine patches and gum but you could not chew gum during training hours so most soldiers got the patch. You were only suppose to have these items unless they were prescribed to you by a doctor at sick call however I don't recall if anyone told the drill sergeants that they wanted to go to sick call for nicotine patches, They may of exaggerated a injury or complained about a pain in there legs or something to go to sick call and then while they were there ask the dr to prescribe them nicotine patches. If I were you I'd would buy your own and take them with you if you feel it may be an issue for you if you can't get the patches while your in.What nice is that you can get them for free when your in Basic but You'll have to get up 4 in the morning and go to the Sick call center which I'll promise you during basic training you will not want to do that since you'll be so tired all of the time.     Far as tips go I'd suggest bringing razors and alot of stamps. You can buy these things while in Basic but they make you shop at affes stores and they rip off military people. They charge top dollar for everything it would be cheaper to buy some mach 3 blades at the dollar store and take them with you and some paper for you to write to your family and friends.  Oh And I forgot to say no you can't smoke in basic.  Or chew tobacco.  Thou you'll probably see allot of people smuggle it in I promise you they'll probably get caught and they'll be put on extra duty.   oh and after you go to tech school you will be what you signed up to be.     Don't think you wont be thrown in the mix first thing.   The military has no problem throwing an inexpiranced person in a field they barley know anything about!!    Think about it!!!   They are sending soldiers  2 weeks out IET and sending them to Iraq!   They will have to know problem putting you to work
