I need to figure out some air travel ideas for kindergardeners, and it could be anythin, as long as it stays in the classroom (or outside in the snow). It needs to be something fun, and exciting, just basically experiences, activities, whatever.

  1. You could cut out pictures of all sorts of air travel - airplanes, helicopters, jets, hot air balloons, etc. - or let them cut them out of travel magazines and make a collage.  Or make your own hot air balloon with a dixie cup, pipe cleaners and a coffee filter for the top.

  2. you could take them on a feild trip to a air muesem.... they might not have much interest in that though. you could make a hot air balloon out of a helium balloon and a basket. you could set up some chairs like a airplane... then they could take turns being the pilot. plus you could hand out juice boxes and meals (pretend or real) like flight attendants. plus you could all decide on a place to travel to. and then have passenger announcements and give them tickets b4 they enter the plane. another idea is... make planes out of boxes and have them race each other. you know those box planes where you cut a hole in the bottom and then make long wings and somehow attche them and then have suspenders to hold the box up??? you could teach them to make paper airplanes. pilot guest speeker?? have them do some relays outside w/ plane theme. take them outside to see if they can see an aircraft. watch a movie on aircrafts...... idk what else.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

on the hot air balloon you could have them also cut out people or use clothes pins to make people to add to the the basket. Another idea is to make two holes with a hole punch from one side of a piece of construction paper and tie a string in the middle. So that the string ends meet and can move freely from hole to hole. Add a hot air balloon cut out and by tape it to the string. Color in clouds, trees etc and you have a hot air balloon flying across the paper (sky). OK i hope that makes sense, not sure how to explain it. We have also done paper Mache hot air balloons and they are very pretty. Cover and inflated balloon with strips of newspaper soaked in liquid starch. The children enjoy getting messy with this. Paint smocks help. Let these dry. The children then paint the paper with lots of bright colors with any design they decide on. Pop the balloon and add string, yarn or ribbon to attach the top to a paper cup. Add people if you want.

I have had my kids set the chairs in rows and have some students as passengers in an airplane. A couple will serve snacks and then two sit in the front as the pilots. They make tickets and pack bags to take on their trips.
