  1. Every airline has its own policies for the size of carry-ons, how many bags you can check, the size of checked bags, etc.  In general, carry-on bags must fit under a seat or in an overhead bin. Just go to the website of the airline that you're flying. Most airlines post this information on their websites, so it's very easy to check.

Liquids are governed by TSA rules and have nothing to do with the airline or your destination. You can find information on what is allowed (and what isn't) at www.tsa.gov.

  2. I have flown from the US to Ukraine this year. Here are some basic rules.

Northwest, Delta, KLM - Royal Dutch Airlines, United allows you to carry one piece of luggage on board the aircraft plus a purse or briefcase or laptop computer or small backpack. The carry-on luggage must be of a size and shape to allow for storage in overhead compartments or underneath the seat in front of you. I've included the site for Northwest Airlines. All other airlines I have listed say the same thing the only exception of KLM's carry on requirements being in metric rather than english units.

    Dimensions:

        * Cannot exceed 45 linear inches (9 inches by 14 inches by 22 inches)

Liquids must be of 3oz or less and must be in containers that hold 3oz or less. In other words you can not put 3oz of liquid in a 16oz bottle. Discount stores, such as WalMart and Kmart do sell empty 3oz translucent bottles. Look for them in the sample size bins in each store's health and beauty section.

Also consult the TSA website (below) for additional information. You can also sign up with them for email updates to their requirements.

Have you registered with your embassy in Ukraine? If a US Citizen, go to the travel.state.gov website to register. It's quick and easy. In case of a family emergency or ukrainian disaster our embassy personnel will be able to find you and assist in your evacuation.

  3. Absolutely nothing!

  4. All airlines flying to or from the USA have to comply with the TSA rules:   www.tsa.gov

  5. Call your carrier. This is the only way to be sure. Regulations change so rapidly at this time that a lot of internet sites are not updated often enough.
