Question:

AirTran Airways: Should I fly with them?

I'm planning a visit to Washington, DC from Denver requiring the customary layover in Atlanta. I'm not traveling until the beginning of December to visit law schools but right now AirTran is the best price. I'm deciding whether to book now or pay a bit more for another airline I've flown before.

What are your thoughts/experiences with AirTran?

It's about 4 hours to Atlanta and another 1.5-2 to DC.

AirTran: worth flying?

  1. I fly a lot and have found Air Tran to be very nice to fly. No Airline is great anymore, but they are very comparable to every other carrier. I think they have more legroom, their planes are a bit newer and they only fly Jets. No need to worry about getting stuck on a little prop plane.

The only thing is connecting, United has a NS flight from Denver that would eliminate a layover, personally I avoid connecting whenever possible.

If you fly frequently, Air Tran shares mile points with Frontier who has a hub in Denver. Sign up for frequent flier miles on Frontier and get points when flying air tran.

  2. This might not contribute to your question, but every time I search for flights, I see AirTran as the cheapest, but with the connecting flights and such, the flight is about 3 times as long.

If you count delays and stuff, that's a VERY long time just to save 15% or so off your airfare, which I don't find to be very worth it.  I always stick to nonstops with my past airlines.

But that's just how I feel when I see AirTran pop up on my airfare search.

  3. Air Tran hasn't had any problems in awhile but keep in mind they also changed their name from Value Jet after they had a crash in FL.  I would try to save $$ were you can law school isn't going to be cheap.

  4. im not sure
