Question:

Airbag deployment question?

1996 Honda Accord either hits center devide guard rail, then minivan & then flips or it swirves to left to avoid hitting car in front who slams on brakes but hits said car (minivan) then flips (not sure if it was hit in back, person can remember). Either way the airbag doesn't deploy. Would you consider this a malfunction? If so, any recourse against Honda (always serviced by local Honda dealer (rip off artists) except recently.

And, at what point is the airbag suppose to be check? After 10 years, everytime there is a major service, when?

The reason for these questions is my mother was in the Honda that flipped & her airbag didn't deploy. Some online articles & some of the local news channels say she caused the accident & just swirved. Others say she swirved to avoid hitting cars in front of her as they had their brakes on. She said she tried to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of her, 3 witness say she was avoiding a collision, other reports say a cement truck caused it. Thx!

  1. I dont' know if she has any recourse, but i wouldn't rely on a 12 year old car to keep me safe in a collision.  Although i wouldn't expect an airbag to fail, i also would not expect it to work.

  2. Unless there was a frontal impact the airbags will NOT deploy. They won't pop out from roll-overs...rear end crash or side impact ( that car is too old to have side impact airbags )

  3. airbags are weak **** like i was trying to prove to my friends that i was hardcore so like after 12 grueling matches of russian roulette i told them i was gonna take out my airbags and hit a a cement wall around 260kph in my dads new porsche so like its really your moms faults as most people have great reaction times so im guessing that she had down syndrome which wouldn't be too surprising considering the argument your making.

P.S i once injected dr.pepper in vein; still kicking

  4. I know that many people will disagree with this but the fact remains that airbags do go off at certain speeds on frontal crashes.

Yes the airbag should have deployed and yes Honda has many recalls and problems with their airbags, check these sites and also contact the vehicles manufacturer..........
