  1. Side airbags: Initial analyses of the efficacy of side airbags suggest they have reduced deaths among passenger car drivers involved in driver-side collisions by about 45 percent when the side airbag included head protection and by 11 percent when the side airbag was designed to protect only the torso.......

  2. So far Evelyn's he only one who's read the question correctly. The 'A' post airbag inflates across the car at the windscreen pillar. Curtain airbags drop down the side of the car and are mounted to the side of the driver/passengers to protect them in a side impact!

Modern cars are virtually 'bouncy castles' on wheels nowadays!

  3. They act as a curtain airbag for your rear passengers. My car has them in  the back of the front seats (if that makes sense lol)

    xx

  4. They come across the side windows when they fire, so you get a bit of protection from flying glass.

  5. The A pillar , for all the people reading this, is the one on the left and right side of the windshield from the roof to the dash board. In a collision, be it head on, diagonal or side impact, the air bag in the steering wheel protects from head on collision, the one on the door protects from side impact and the one on the pillar protects from diagonal impact. there is a lot of room between the door and steering wheel air bags. there is a great deal of force in a collision, so for added protection the car manufacturer installed these for added protection in a spot that has a void: ie the space between the steering wheel and the door air bags
