Question:

Airborne Draft Dodgers

In 1967 I managed to join the national guard to avoid the draft. However, not being politically connected I had to join a special forces unit.

In recent years I have met two others around my age who were in airborne guard units in other states under the same circumstances.

Are there any stats on how many airborne guardsmen were draft dodgers during the Vietnam era?

  2. I would say very few for two reasons, their age, as well ast the fact that the Armed Services would not be likely to accept them. I suspect that those who  refused to go to Vietnam are too principled   to be airborne guardsmen now.

  3. It's simple Kati, he's some leg or someone that got booted from an airborne unit and is taking his revenge by trying to slander them. There's a lot of losers out there that just couldn't cut it and they are angry when they get dropped.

  4. Over fifty thousand members of the National Guard and the Air National Guard participated in the Vietnam War. One of the most decorated units in country was an artillery outfit from the West Virginia Guard. The Air Guard personnel that participated did so under the Palace Alert Program. Lieutenant George Walker Bush volunteered for Palace Alert but, unfortunately, he had trained and qualified in an obsolete air frame.
