I find it hysterical a tiny plane such as the A319 has a range of 3300nm whilst the 737-900 has a max range of just 2000nm.

How is this even possible!?

  1. Maximum Range 3,200 nautical miles (5,925 km) - two-class layout, 2 aux. tanks

2,700 nautical miles - one class layout

    737-900ER

Also carrying more passengers a319 (124)

    737 180-210

  2. Perhaps you'd like to review your data: the 737-900 has a range of 2700 NM.

And if an airline flies city pairs that are located 1500 NM from one another, the extra range is pretty useless (extra fuel capacity that is never used, this means needlessly powerful engines and less economical operations). Airline operations is not about which flies the furthest, but about which flies the most economically.
