  1. yes the F16 is a fitting choice for the CAF

i like the boeing planes better however. the 777 tanker looks BOOYA

  2. airbus dosent even make any military planes

    boeing fregin rocks!!!!!!!!!!! w00t!

  3. The KC-767 is a superior platform... the Air Force identified 5 weaknesses in the KC-30, including 4 in the area of aerial refueling.   (Kind of important!)  Only one weakness was identified on the KC-767.  The Air Force did not make the right choice.

As for the F-16, it is an aging platform.  However, Unless Canada is preparing to go to war with the U.S., the F-16 would be more than capable.

  4. Airbus vs Boeing is a tough call, but the have to be chosen for specific missions. The new Airbus tanker the US is buying is probably the best plane for the job no matter what Boeing says. For military transport jobs the choice would probably be best made to Lockheed Martin. They have dedicated transports that are much more versatile.

On your second question: The combination of large desolate areas and short range (relatively) single engine fighters such as the F16, is not a good mix. Canada would be better off with a twin with much longer range. In my humble and no doubt controversial opinion we would be better off with one of the advanced export Su 27 variants. We can't afford the huge cost of the F22 we may end up with the JSF but the single engine is again a negative.

  5. Cargo - Integrated Defense Systems

    Commercial - Boeing Commercial Airplanes

    Military - Integrated Defense Systems

And no, i dont think an aircraft that is so expensive to purchase and maintain is necessary for a country such as canada that has a very very small combat role in the global spectrum.  i'm not hating on canada, dont get me wrong, im just saying they dont fight.

  6. for sound, boeing is way better. Military, Boeing does make more air force and navy planes for the u.s than airbus.

  7. Airbus (EADS) doesn't have a military cargo aircraft that matches the capacity of the C-17.  Canada just bought four of them.

The F-16 was rejected by the Canadian Armed Forces because it was single engined (even though one of the planes it was replacing, the CF-104 Starfighter, was single engined as well).  The CF-18 won the fighter competition and was introduced to the CAF in 1983.

The JSF is the most likely candidate for the CAFs new fighter since a percentage is already built in Canada, but it is only single engined.  The Rafale is twin engined and much cheaper than the Eurofighter or the F-22.  It would be my pick.

Edit: wolfpackred210, we are the third largest force in Afghanistan right now, we fought in Kosovo, Bosnia, the first Gulf War, Korea, and WWII (we took our own beach that was more heavily defended than Omaha on D-Day and were the only force that met the 24 hour objectives).  We also sent ships south for the Cuban Missle Crisis even though Canada wasn't threatened, operated radar stations to detect Soviet bombers flying over the pole to attack the US during the Cold War, and pioneered the use of armed forces for peacekeeping.  Sorry we didn't join you in Iraq but I think that history will prove that to be a wise decision.

  8. Well if its an american talking he woud probalbly chose Boeing. I think Boeing is better in military productions wich airbus doesnt make one, but in comercial jets airbus has more technology inside and is considered as the safest comercial jet. I have seen an Airbus from inside and God it does all itself. A lot of pilot prefere boeing so they can really fly but remeber that the main couse of accident is human factor so i chose Airbus cuz its more safe..

  9. Over all I'd have to go with Boeing. They build great aircraft. Most of their market share losses were due to Airbus being heavily subsidized.

As for the F-16 for Canada, I really hope we'd get something newer. Either the F-35, or while I'm dreaming, the F-22. Buying a new aircraft of the same design age as the F-18 would not be very beneficial. I think the Super Hornet would be a better bet.
