who paints commercial airliners, is it the manufaturers like airbus or boeing, or is there a third party, and how many of them are out there?

  1. The original paint job is done by the manufacturer to whichever design the company chooses.  The rudder is always painted with it's portion of the tail paint scheme before mounting to insure perfect balance.  The paint jobs are maintained in the company paint shops owned by the airline or by third party contracted out by the smaller airlines who may not have their own.  Wichita, Kansas and Mobile Alabama are two main centers for aircraft refurbishment, conversions, and maintenance.

  2. The customer usualy has a design, Boeing or any other company would use their hangars to do the painting. Fly them back up to their field, and then fly them to where the plane will be based out of.

  3. The paint jobs on commercial aircraft are a matter of choice for the airlines which are operating them.Each airline has its individual design ,distinguishing from each other.

    There are thousands of airlines and as many

    paint jobs!
