Question:

Aircraft Recognition ?

Just looked at Google earth for Boscombe Down.

Cant identify two of the visible aircraft and they appear to look very strange.

The first is sat outside one of the bunkers to the north west of the runways.

The second is sat in the engine run up bay, directly north of the runways.

Anyone know what they are?

  1. Link?

  2. There's lots of aircraft on this map. CAN YOU PUT A LINK UP.

    Please mate!

The 2nd one is definitely a Harrier.

  3. Top most bunker

    Hunter

    Phantom

    Jet Provost

    Engine running area

    Harrier

    Bunker with lone aircraft

    Harrier

  4. The group of three is a Hawker Hunter, a Mcdonald Douglas Phantom the third aircraft is a Provost trainer but I can't tell if its propeller or the later jet version as the air frames are almost identical.

The aircraft stood on its own looks like an incomplete Harrier and the aircraft in the engine test area is a Harrier

  5. I'm with the other guys,, for the 'several' you do have a PHANTOM

seemingly next to a Hunter.  And a Harrier in the engine test cell. No clue on the prop, low winged trainer.

  6. There are too many aircraft and your information in quite non-specific.

Try describing the craft and describing exactly where they are and what is around them if you cant link to the exact spot.

  7. The one in the engine test bay is an early model Harrier, either GR1 or GR3.  I saw 2 sets of aircraft outside the bunkers.  One group contained a Hunter, a Phantom and something with straight wings and probably a propeller engine.  East of this is an early model Harrier shell with no horizontal tail attached.

That's all I could see, hope it is useful.
