Question

what are the technological advancements in aircraft maintenance?

& the use of technology in aircraft maintenance?

I've been googling for ages but cant find anything relevant

Through the years there are a lot more computer systems & plug in type break out boxes have been developed to make troubleshooting quick & accurate.

before an aircraft accident is blamed mostly on technical /aircraft problems...

now the technology is so advance that aircraft accidents is blamed solely on human error.

that is why now mechanics, engineers (aircraft i.e.) must have a Human factor Course or if has must be current.

Most of the advances are in the field of computer technology, such as diagnostics or tracking of maintenance times and parts inventories. The onboard maintenance and diagnostic system of the Boeing 777 is a good example of a "smart" aircraft that spots its own faults, notifies maintenance, shows which items need replacement and even what maintenance bases or vendors have them in stock.  Another example is the "smart"  torque wrench that can be remotely monitored for correct calibration.  There are hundreds of examples; you just need to use the right search terms on Google.

I am an army mechanic that works on the AH-64.  

One of the big advancements in the maintenance side of our airframe has been the MSPU modification.  It helps by installing updated sensors on our mechanical components, and also provides an in depth graphing software system that uses stored vibe logs to tell us if there are problems in the drive systems, or the rotor system.  It also has made the balancing process of our rotor system much more streamlined.   It does come with its downfalls though.  The accelerometers and tachometers require maintenance, as well as weight and wiring problems that it presents.  It also incorporated a USB system into an otherwise outdated system.  

Also, There is extensive updates to the maintenance repair manuals that  help, and hinder us.  They help because they are more in depth, but the computers supplied barely have the resources to run such programs.  So you have to realize that the balance between technology and the actual hand turning the wrench must be kept.
