  1. The paint is cheaper

  2. With civil planes: it probably just doesn't show much dirt

    With millitary: white blends in well with the sky. Most military planes are white or gray for camo. Some of the british V bomber force was painted in a color called anti-flash white that was hard to see from a distance.

  3. So that when they are stood on the tarmac in the sun, they don't get as hot as a plane painted black would and are therefore cheaper to cool...

  4. the first guy is spot on

  5. White is also a good hider of skin imperfections.  So, a white jet hides the rivets well and makes the skin look smooth.  Black, on the other hand, accentuates imperfections.  Look at a black car and you really see each dent.  White paint is also cheaper, and a TAD lighter since it has no pigment.  Think about how much 100 gallons of paint weighs, well it weighs just as much on the aircraft too, so less weight is good.  White is also forgiving to spray on.  The same could be said of apartments, why are they all white?

  6. White=cool

    Black=Hot

    temperature wise...I would guess it also blends better with the sky.

  7. White paint is cheaper (no custom mixing).

    It reflects sunlight/heat more efficiently.

    Does not fade as fast as pigmented paint.

    It's a lot easier to match on damaged panels.

    And, as stated above, it's a good 'masker'.
