Airlie Jet in the limelight of the Billy Mulvaney Snr And Jnr Memorial 525 Semi-Final
The only promising entry in the Semi-Final of the Billy Mulvaney Snr And Jnr Memorial 525 is the two-year-old black hound, Airlie Jet. He will be joined by five more contenders who will try their best to get entitled to the €500 prize money on Saturday,
22nd September at Shelbourne Park over 525 yards flat.
The Mason trained started racing just this season and has primarily raced at Shelbourne Park over varying distances, but that also rarely. The two-year-old made a smooth transit from the Grade T races to the Grade A1, and then finally the open level.
Airlie Jet’s first experience at the level was in the Ladbrokes Getting Out 550 on 18th August, 2012 at Shelbourne Park over 550 yards. Racing in the blue jacket, he got stuck in the middle division, and ended up racing across the wire in 30.38
seconds.
The race was won by, Murralli Junior, in 30.04 seconds.
Soaking in as much as was possible from the open level debut, the son of Ballymac Maeve won the Race Sponsorship Open 525 on 23rd August, 2012 at Shelbourne Park over 525 yards.
Once again the Mason trained broke from the second trap. Even though he did not set into an early high gear, the two-year-year led on from the fourth position, and completed the trip in 28.85 seconds, winning over the evening’s favourite, Murralli Junior,
by a length’s mark.
His next three races were at the same venue and over the same distance, but he accumulated three different positions owing to the three different traps he broke from. The different trap each time would have refrained the black hound from setting into a pattern
that would ensure success.
On 15th September, he ended third in the Connacht Gaa Council Open 550 at Shelbourne Park over 550 yards.
The favourite entry tried making the most out of every possible chance, but was set aside by the speed and tactic of the winning pair.
Minefield won the race in 29.97 seconds.
The 5 to 2 entry has drawn the fourth trap for the challenge tonight, it is a tricky trap, but he has won from it once before in a Grade A1.
