  1. 1.  This has nothing to do with airline flying.  The interview is king there, getting past that, passing the training and surviving probation.  Once you have a seniority number it only matters that management is bright enough to keep the company going until retirement.

    2.  The military is very competetive and only the best are chosen for flight school.

    3.  There is always competition for interviews and admission to military pilot training.  For civilian training, go down to the local airport and bring your checkbook -- still checkrides and performance, but you will need the checkbook.

  2. All aspects of the aviation industry are highly competitive, and only the very top layer of applicants will get very far.  This is increasingly true as the economy goes deeper into the hole.

If by "flight school" you mean military training, then yes, certainly, they will admit only the cream of the crop.  They are going to spend many millions of dollars on your training and deployment, and they want to minimize the risk that you won't make the cut at some point.

If you mean a college/university flight program or a comprehensive certification program through an FBO or other flight operation, you will find the admission process somewhat less selective.  It is your money that is at risk, not theirs.

But at the end of all the training and building time, if you want to apply for a job with an airline or a top level corporate aviation operation, you will encounter one of the most competitive hiring markets in existence.  You will compete with extremely sharp people in a very sweaty environment.

If you are talented and determined, you can make it, but it is not easy.

  3. Anybody with the enthusiasm, apptitude the will and the funding to become a pilot can attend flight school.

I am only in a position to speak to U.S. schools, however I would hope there are similar oportunities elsewhere.

    Good luck

    p.s. Nice picture:-)

  4. For some flight schools yes.  Flight schools only have a number of open slots.  when their are more people then slots, then they will pick the best one(s).  They pick the best ones because that person may learn at a faster rate then the others.  Then when he is done they enroll another student.

  5. nope, it depends most on whether you are a hot female or a minority.
