Airline Tickets..can anyone afford to fly right now?

I cannot afford to fly and cannot find a decent price on a ticket to Europe. What do I do?

Even though prices have gone higher, the price is still in the affordable "range" for the average American. For example, say a flight to visit your family was $500 two years ago and now it is $700, most people will still spend $700 because they want to go home to visit family.

Save your money and go when you can afford it. I can't afford it, either. There is a lot of this country that you have not yet seen, I will bet. Visit some of it.

Yes, there are still deals out there to be found, but you have to shop around or contact your local travel agent.

The best deals are the ones that package air, hotel + car rentals - that's about the only way to get a discount these days unless you travel as a group, and qualify for group rates.

Consider getting a debit card that is linked to earning mileage (B of A offers one), or if you have an existing credit card, ask of they have a mileage program for your favorite airline. It's possible that if you use the debit/credit card (responsibly!) that you could be on your way to a "free" ticket in no time.

Many of the mileage programs will give you bonus miles with your first use, and match your purchases with mileage dollar for dollar, just make sure you read the terms and conditions regarding when/if miles expire, etc. It's also important to note that if you use the designated mileage card to make a ticket purchase with the designated airline, most of the time they will award you double miles in return.

I wish the economy would turn around--just like everyone else.

The new trend seems to be the "StayCation" where people Vacation, while STAYing closer to home...somewhere in your home state, but a few hours away so it still feels like you 'left' home :-)
