  1. dude, dont worry, my dad is a pilot, i have flown pretty much every single flight with him (that´s about 15yrs), nothing has evr gone wrong. Airlines are very tight about their safety, since more people on board means more people that have the opportunity to sue you if something goes wrong, so they do their best to prevent a lawsuit.

    hope i helped!

  2. I think "wolf of the black moon" meant "statistically," rather than "sadistically."  Most people in aviation are not sadistic.

I flew professionally for more than 35 years and never had anything go wrong worse than a k**b coming off one of the radios.  So you have a pretty good chance of getting to tomorrow's destination without suffering serious harm.  Relax, think about your destination, and you'll be past the fear before you know it.

  3. Statistics, you do not want.! Just imagine that you are sitting in your living room watching T.V., you are not afraid then are you? If you do not think about flying and not  being on the ground, whats` the difference?  You can even get up and go to the loo ( providing you go through the right door!) Stop worrying, if I can do it, anyone can!

  4. put it this way, I am from london and every hour, there are 90 planes that take off and land just at heathrow, so globally there is probably a good few thousand flights an hour.

its very rare for a modern airliner to crash, especially on some of the big airlines, a plane crash is very bad for business so they tend to look after their planes very well.

dont worry you will be fine.

  5. no need to be scared.i love flying!!!trust me.it's really fun

  6. There's nothing to be afraid of.  There were nearly 6,420,000 car accidents in the US alone in 2005. Of these 42, 643 people were killed. Since 1980 to current 2008, 40 people have died in a vending machine accident. The odds of being killed in a plane crash on one of the top 25 safest airlines is 1 in 6.06 million. The odds of being killed on one single airline flight is 1 in 10.46  million.

Trust me, you'll be safe. It's a very safe way of transportation.

  7. Bathtubs. Cars. Ladder. Stairs. Bicycles. Chairs. Dogs. Bees. Lightening. Accidental Poisoning. Chainsaws. Swimming Pools. Hand Tools.

What do these things all have in common?

They all kill more people each year, then the total number of dead in Airline Crashes for the past DECADE. Air travel Sadistically is the safest form of transportation on the planet.

The Pilots who fly them, the ATC's that guide them, the mechanics that maintain them, and those of us who build them know every day just what is riding on our shoulders.

So Relax and Enjoy your Flight.

  8. You have a better chance of dieing on the way to the airport than you do flying.

Don't worry NOTHING is going to go wrong.

all those red dots are airplanes------airplanes that have took off and landed successfully numerous times.

  9. The first answer is just so American... Airlines don't want to crash not to avoid lawsuits. It's just common sense. Why would anyone want a business to kill people. Besides these flying machines cost hundreds of millions of dollars each (new).

Anyway, to answer the question, these planes are made with so much precision and safety. It's totally different to your car (even a Ferrari). They get maintenance etc.

The pilots are highly trained people. They have gone through years of hard work and are kept current on emergency procedures in the simulator twice a year. These days, aircraft are mainly automated and the pilots just manage the systems. There is nothing to worry about on that front.

Statistically speaking, you are more likely to die on the way to the airport than falling out of the sky.

People who have fears of flying usually get over it once the take off phase has gone. The cruise is usually really smooth. Landing is when people start to freak out again but there honestly is nothing to worry about. Deep down you know that but your irrational fear is taking over you. Don't live your life in fear as that is no life living.
