My husband is looking to persue a career as a airline pilot, if anyone out there has valuable input in this matter please share it with us. Things like tuition, hours, prerequisites, physical requirememts, etc. We are doing our part by looking for schools in our area, we would like to get some information from people who have actually done it or are in the process of doing it. Thanks!

  1. Many of these requirements depend on what country you live in, though much of them are similar.  Tuition costs depend on what school you go to and what the training is for.  If you are doing a degree, diploma, integrated, or modular program, the cost varies.

I am unable to recommend specific schools as I don't know where you live or what your husband has in mind for the educational part of things, but what I can suggest is that you talk to many different schools to get a feel for which one will best suit your needs.  If you are able to relocate for the sake of a better school, consider that as it may be worth it.  Costs will be high wherever you go, that is a guarantee, but compare them to other schools.  Don't go for the school simply because it has the shiniest paint job on their aircraft... the mechanical aspect may not be so good.  Try to consider every aspect of the school.

    Good luck.

  2. to become an airline pilot, cost can vary, anywhere from 30,000-50,000. It depends on what type of airplane he uses, gas prices, area, flight school, etc.

Here's a list of flight schools in your state, I hope you find it helpful.

  3. I'm a private pilot training to be a commercial pilot at the Seneca College Degree Program.

Basically you need 2 things to get into airlines.

    - Any kind of university degree

    - An  Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). First you get a Private Pilot License (PPL) which takes around 60 hours of flight training. Then you get a commercial pilot license (CPL) which takes around 200 flight training hours. An ATPL is more of an automatic thing you get when you have 750 hours.

To start you can go to the local flight school at your local airport. There are a lot of universities that offer a degree with a license so these might help you.

So there you can train to get your PPL followed by CPL.

A CPL basically makes you a working pilot and you can flying most small jets and charter planes. A small exam will then get you your ATPL and off you go to the airlines.

In Ontario, training for a CPL could take upto 8 months-2 yrs and around 60000$. A degree isn't a must but you can add another $50000 for that.

The best thing I can suggest is to just visit your local training airport and ask questions. Almost all of these airports have flight schools and will be eager to help you.

Here's a couple of sites you can look at.

    www.torontoairways.com

    aviation.senecac.on.ca

Keep in mind that after training, it could take as much as 5-8 yrs to get into an airline because you have to build up your flying hours as an instructor or a small plane charter pilot. However, Middle Eastern airlines and Asian airlines have a lot of demand so you can get into airlines over there right after you're training is done.

  4. you have not mentioned your country state etc.
