Question:

Airline lost my luggage. how to improve my chances of recovering?

i had a flight from pisa to rome then rome to the u.s. my baggage never made it and i suspect it's floating around rome somewhere. i'm very upset as it had something that contained personal documents and i fear someone getting their hands on it and doing damage (it had address and financial info).

i don't think anyone would want to steal it as it was just a bunch of clothes (besides the document) but they said if after five days they didn't find it, i had to send a claim with original baggage tracking ticket among other stuff.

i heard airlines sell luggage that they never find owners for. how soon do they usually do this? i would be destroyed if this happened. i also don't understand why they can't find it if there is a ticket to scan on the bag. please.. what can i do to improve my chances of getting it back?? this is driving me crazy.

it had my name tag on it in addition to the scannable tag the airline attaches

thanks

  1. For any travel related need Try http://www.cheap-airline-airfare.com , here you can search more than 150 discount travel in one place

  2. Call the airline company and make your follow up calls daily.. another thing, if you could get the number of the ground handler  of the airline that handles their baggages. ( if they outsource a ground handling company) Ask for their help. Give them you flight details and tag number. They will help you with it. Its actually part of their task. You just have to make your personal follow up with this people to expedite the recovery of your luggage.  just do not loss the tag number. The airline people wil help you locate your  luggage. Im sure they will also do their best to get your luggage.

  3. Hello,

I wouldn't sweat it. Your chances of finding the lost luggage are most likely better than 50/50. What probably happened is that your bag a.) never made it to Rome or b.) never made it to the U.S.

It most likely didn't make it to the U.S. Why? I have no idea. Like you said, it is probably floating around Rome somewhere, but it is most likely in the Rome airport. Your bag should be shipped to the U.S. on the next U.S.-bound flight. If it does not come within 5 days, make sure you file the baggage claim right on time. That is one major way that you can increase your chances of finding it.

Airlines don't usually sell luggage, as far as I've heard, for at least a few months after the bags go unclaimed. Right now I wouldn't worry about your bag being sold. Call your airline once or twice a day to find out if any lost luggage has made its way back home, one call in the morning and one call at night.

Good luck! I hope all goes well.

  4. well, first call the airline to check. If you've got the name tag, try to give it to the airline company and give them a a description of the bag and your flight no. if you really need it back, ask yourself if u have a copy of the scannable tag. and don't worry, airline companies don't sell the baggage.

PS. that happened to a friend of mine. he was traveling' in Europe, and he lost his baggage.  he found out later from the police that a band of gypsies.
