If I book a flight, say a month, before the travel date, what is the likelihood that my seat is NOT reserved? I decided to pick Delta. Thanks.

  1. Pick your seat when you purchase your ticket...or go on line and pick it...........

  2. I worked for the airlines.

It all depends on how booked the flight is. The bulkhead and emergency rows as well as a few prime rows are held back for what's called "airport control".

If you book it and they won't give you a seat assignment, chances are the flight is oversold (or at best heavily booked). You can outright ask them if that's the case and they'll tell you.

Don't worry about getting a seat. If you buy a ticket, you are confirmed and they have to get you onboard - even if they have to pay volunteers to give up seats.

But the airlines know what they're doing. If a flight's oversold, it's because it has a history of no shows. Just be sure to be at the gate an hour in advance and be in the gate area when it's time to board.

  3. If you cant get a seat the day you make a reservation, and it says "airport check in only" that means they will have to assign it to you at the airport. the airlines only alot 40 percent of the seats to be assigned by outside agencies.. You can also check in "online" at the airlines website, with your confirmation number 24 hrs prior and get your seat then...Good luck

  4. If you have received a seat assignment, your seat is definitely reserved.  If you have a confirmation number, your reservation is definitely reserved.  However, if you show up late to boarding, there's a chance your seat will be given away.

  5. You will definately have a seat reserved on the plane.  However most airlines will sell more tickets than they have seats because they have quite a few no-shows for each flight.  This means that often they will have to offload some passengers.  They will usually ask before they offload you and will give some kind of reward though.  It doesnt happen on every flight though.
