Someone at the age of 30 told me that he was a pilot. He does not fly now and works as a Customer Service Manager at an airport. He said "well cuz I don't like the schedule and the unstable working schedule." Is he lying? Have you ever heard of someone quitting being a pilot becuz of this and switched? He lives in Los Angeles and works for Continental. I think he's lying about being a pilot when he was younger because i know there is no CO flight crew based in LA.

  1. Flying is 99% pure boredom and 1% sheer terror. Alot of people can't stand the 99% part. To tell you the truth I'm one of them.

  2. I have my commercial but havent flown for a while, Its been 6 months since Ive even touched a plane.

Flying can get extremely boring, but what really pushed me away from it was having to deal with the idiotic management. You have to depend on them for every little decision, which are made by people who have no idea what they are doing. They should leave it to us. On top of that they are rude and sometimes even crazy. I once witnessed a manager dump out a huge bag of drugs on the tarmac because he didnt want to explain to the police how they had gotten past security and on to a plane.

I work with computers now, as I did before, but Im thinking about getting my A&P and working on GA aircraft.

  3. Yes, very much so.  Long-haul flying can get to be VERY routine.  Also, like in any job one has to deal with a bureaucracy.  In the AF, guys flying fighters daily got PO'd enough about the requirements to find a staff job, they got out and did something else.

For me, I have absolutely no desire to be a flying bus-driver.

  4. Whether he's a pilot or not, can't say.  But it is possible to quit, I'd like to.

As stated above:  idiotic managament that doesn't have the first clue about their job, much less mine.  Passengers and other employees that can all do my job better.  The scheduling does suck, makes no logical sense and is not efficient (but I'm just a pilot, I don't understand).  The daily security strip search, when I already have control of the aircraft.  ATC delays from the TMU, on and on and on.

    It used to be different.

  5. it's possible to get tired from a career.. but from my opinio it's impossible not to like flying planes

  6. I retired and sure don't miss it.

  7. Well on cbc news 2 weeks ago they interviewed a gentleman who appeared to be in his 30s who quit his job as a commercial pilot in Red Lake Ontario to work in the gold mine. Says the money and schedule were far better.
