Question:

Airlines now charging for checking bags?!?!?

I bought my ticket before June 15, 2008, and I am checking two bags, does that mean I am exempt from the bag fee this time? Everyone keeps saying for the first bag, but I traveled in April and checked two bags as well and was not charged for either. I am so confused as to the charges now! If someone could please tell me, I would really appreciate it.

  1. American Airlines policy is on their website: http://www.aa.com/aa/i18nForward.do?p=/t... If you bought your ticket from May 12 to June 14, you can check the first bag for free, but you pay $25 for a second bag. Tickets bought from the 15th of June on will have to pay $15 for the first checked bag and $25 for the second one.

If you're flying most places out of the country (other than Canada, Puerto Rico, or the US Virgin Islands), you can check two bags free.

  2. i heard they only charge for american airlines and union but jetblue doesnt so thats what im going on. :)

  3. No

Fees are charge at the time of check-in.

Different carrier charges different rate. Some charges only the second checked bag while other charges on any checked bag. But all Airline do not charge their premiere members (Gold, Platinum, super elite...blah blah blah)

  4. Not all airlines are charging (yet) for checked luggage so you need to check with your carrier.

    P.S. From AA website:

    Updates Regarding Checked Baggage

Customers who purchased domestic economy class tickets May 12, 2008, through June 14, 2008, may check one bag for free and check a second bag for $25 each way. Customers who purchase domestic economy class tickets on or after June 15, 2008, will be charged $15 each way for the first checked bag and $25 each way for the second checked bag.
