  1. I have flown SWA many times. People use to start lining up like an hour before the flight. it got crazy. So now they call your group out and then you get in line. It depends on where in the line as to how many seats you get to pick from. So stay alert and get ready to get up quickly into the line. The biggest problem are all the people trying to put there bags in the overhead bins and blocking the asle. I have seen so many people with too big of a carry on, trying as they may and holding up everybody. I have heard the airlines are really cracking down on oversized carry-ons. I hope so. Anyways, I am not to fussy with what seat I get as long as it is not in the middle between 2 fat people. Usually SWA flights are not too long, so it really doesn't matter what seat you get.

  2. The last time I traveled Southwest (last 6 months) we were allowed to check-in online 24 hours before. At that time we were assigned a "letter & number" that designated where in the boarding line we should be. There are poles with 'numbered' signs on them before boarding.  Once aboard you are allowed to choose from the available seats.

Believe it or not, there are a lot more people than you think sitting at a computer 24 hours before waiting to check-in! I tried to 'time it' but was locked out for about 5 minutes. At that point I ended up like 30th!

  3. It appears that you will have a choice of seats when you check in on the Southwest website 24 hours before you depart.  At that time you will possibly be able to chose a seat other wise you are just getting your place in line for boarding the flight and will be able to choose  your seat once on board.

Hint start trying to check in 5 minutes before the 24 hour start and keep hitting the refresh button so that as soon as it is 24 hours before departure, you are in line.

  4. You have a letter on your boarding pass, and when they call that letter thats when you board and then you get to pick the seat you want.

    hope that helps you.

  5. It's open seating so you can sit anywhere.  Best bet is to check in online 24 hrs in advance to make sure you get an A card, then you will be in the first group to board.  If your on a 737-700 series, 12F is probably the best seat (it's an exit row, no seat in front of you...as long as your 15 you can sit there).  Here's what their planes look like inside if your curious.
