what is the process of a one stop flight? does it stop and people who are leaving get off, or do you have to switch planes?

You may be on the same plane, or you may have to change.

Generally, towards the end of a flight, there will be an announcement about connecting flights which will give you the information you need including a gate number if you are changing planes.  If you are staying on the same plane you can usually stay in your seat.  If you miss the announcement ask a flight attendant or, as a last resort, there will be an information desk at the transit airport that can help you.

Your airline should know whether you have to change planes now.  If they don't, check at the time you check in when they will definitely know.

It depends.  Sometimes you get to just chill on the plane.  Other times you get to practice the hundred meter dash and run to catch a different plane.  If you are uber worried, call the airline company.  they should be able to give you a good idea of what you will have to do.

well when your at the airport look to see if it prints out one ticket peer person or two if its just one then stay on the plane but two then you have to look at the second ticket to see what terminal you have to go to and what flight number

Find out if your flight is a DIRECT flight.  A direct flight means that even though you have one stop, you will not change planes.  A connecting flight involves a change of planes and possible terminals.  If it is direct, you will be given the option to stay onboard while others leave and new passengers board

Usually they are making a stop to pick up more passengers., but always assume you have to change planes.

They'll tell you one thing when you buy the ticket, but the reality is usually different at the last minute.

Generally, it lands and those leaving get off. Those continuing on stay on board. However, sometimes, if there is a long layover (more than an hour) people will get off and remain in the waiting area, or go to the bar, etc.

ok well a one stop flight is called "connected flight" and which ever flight you picked will have a desinated connected place.

meaning, for example if your flight says

DEPARTING: florida

CONNECT: washington

ARRIVE: newyork

you will catch the plane and you will land in WASHINGTON

and from there in washington you will get off the plane and catch another one.

and from there that plane will take you to newyork =D
