We all know what airplane pilots are like, right?

Example- Pilot: We are presently anticipating considerable weather.

What reasons might a pilot have for not being straightford and saying something like: "Um, there's a storm up ahead and it may get bumpy."

  1. Angelo made a great point, We are informing  the passengers of the situation in an appropriate way, Some people have phobias of flying, And in the long run we want to maintain calm atmosphere . And if we say something like: "Um, there's a storm up ahead and it may get bumpy." We will sound uninformed and uneducated.

  2. Like the poster before me, we are there to maintain the calm. In your example, you said anticipating. we may not know if there will be turbulence ahead, and some people get nervous and scared. We are trained (well at least I was) to always keep the situation calm, and if turbulence arises, I will go over the PA and inform the cabin as well as turn on the seatbelt sign.

  3. They are trained to maintain the calmness of passengers in a crisis/situation.  If the pilot sounds sketchy/scared it will result in the passengers being scared so they must inform the people in a clam/collective manner that doesn't sound threatening.
