Question:

Airplane help please?

I am going to Vegas in 2 days. I wanted to take a carry on just because I'm going for a few days and I think it's dumb to pay $15 for a big suitcase. Does anyone know what I can and can't bring on? I'll be leaving from O'Hare and flying United. For example: razors, tooth paste, make up, perfume, deodorant, anything else I may need?

thanks!!

  1. You can bring everything you listed...but just remember that anything liquid (including toothpaste and deodorant) have to be under 3oz, and all fit into 1 quart size ziplock bag.  Have fun in Vegas!

  2. follow the links to the tsa site provided by other posters.

If you're not fussy about your shampoo/conditioner/soap, just leave yours at home and use what the hotel provides (or if you're staying with someone, ask if you can use theirs)

Some hotels will provide razors and toothpaste as well.

You should be able to carry-on a razor (I've done it several times - Gilette Venus - with no problem), but no straight blades.

Everything else liquid, make sure it's in a small container (3oz or less) and all your small containers of liquid fit into one quart size baggie.  I've heard that it sometimes helps getting through security if you label your little containers as well (just "shampoo" or "conditioner")

Also, be prepared for security being tight - they may ask you lots of questions, treat you like a criminal, ask you to remove items from your bag... or they may not.  Always be pleasant while speaking to TSA officers, even if you think they're wrong - for better or worse, they're the ones who can let you in so you can catch your flight.

  3. You wouldn't be able to bring on any sharp objects, or large bottles of liquid.

For liquids, you're only allowed to fill 1 large ziploc bag (1 quart) that they give you before security.  And the bottles of liquid can't be any larger than 3 oz (approx 90ml).  So I suggest you put all your essentials (shampoo, toothpaste, perfume, etc) into small containers, or go to a close retail store to buy the 'travel' (small) versions of all the above. (BTW, liquids include liquid foundation).

As for the razor, bring a cheap one, because they may ask you to leave it behind.  It's iffy with the razor, as I haven't tried it before.  You MIGHT get away with it, but if it's tight security, they won't let a razor through.

I think that's it!  Just avoid large liquids and a large number of liquids, and sharp objects.

  4. Here's the details straight from the source:

    Here's a detailed list: http://www.tsa.gov/assets/pdf/prohibited...

Pre-pack all your liquids in a one quart size ziplock bag.  Then just pull it out and place it separately in the bin.  It's really not that bad.
