Question:

Airport Job for 20-21 year old?

I'm considering majoring in air transportation and becoming a flight dispatcher.

But for the time being I was thinking about getting a small job at an airport such as being one of the people on sidewalk baggage check-in that help people get around or just another small job like that. I'm a petite girl so major labor jobs aren't an option.

Can anyone suggest any small jobs airports offer that just anyone could do without a degree of some sort? If so it would be greatly appreciated :)

  1. Naynmello,

I suggest that you try to get a job as a Customer Service Agent. It will be difficult for you to get a job as a dispatcher, as there are not that many of them and they are usually promoted from within.   Now that computers do most of the flight planning, the workload of flight dispatchers has been cut way down. They are generally located in just a few cities, also.

    Regards,

    Dan

  2. Get a job at an FBO at your local airport. Either as a line person or as a customer service agent.

  3. I would apply for a gate agent or customer service agent. These are positions that fit exactly what you are describing. The airlines are always hiring for these positions and are usually part time positions. A bomus is when applying for a different position later any type of aircraft experience helps you out. As far as a dispatch job you will need to take a course. Michigan Institute of Aviation and Technology and Wyotech are two schools that offer these programs. There are many others these are just two well known ones.

  4. You could work at an FBO
