I have to make a Model airport for school? The airport needs a run way, control tower and may a few other details. I don't expect anything real fancy and the model doesn't have to be very big. Can I buy such a model? Or how can I make it? Are there any shops which can help me get this model? shops locates in Toronto, Canada are preferred.

  1. you mean buy a COMPLETE model of an airport, including the runway? No, nothing like that is commercially available that I know of. There are hobby scale control towers, hangers, and even some foam runways ( Toys R Us sells a line of diecast airplanes that comes with a small section of "runway", you buy plenty of airplanes, you can get an entire airport. LOL ).  Target has a cheap ( or had one ) airport terminal for $1 awhile back, it's probably gone by now, was in their $1 section. Hobby shops may carry one, but they're hard to find, usually have to be ordered special. Good luck!

    - The Gremlin Guy - has an HO scale airport terminal building

  2. A hobby store that specializes in either model railroads (and possibly doll houses) would be good.

You can certainly find photos of typical control towers and runway layouts.  You should be able to build what you need from relatively inexpensive supplies used to build buildings and accessories for train layouts.  You might even get lucky and find a models that would be specific to an airport.

  3. You may use Punch 3d home software to make buildings and as for the runwy, you may use adobe photoshop cs2 to paint runways.

    Good luck.

  4. Is your project to make or buy an airport model? early airports were designs that shared much with the train stations of the day. small airports have runway of about 2,000 ft, major airport in USA has five parallel runways up to 10,000 ft

  5. Here is the airport where I learned to fly, in Lawrenceville Georgia:

    http://www.airnav.com/airport/KLZU

It shows a nice aerial view of the field so you can get an idea what it actually looks like.  And there is an airport diagram that you can use to model all of the runways.

You can use that site (http://www.airnav.com) to find an airport that would be of more interest to you... but I think they only have US airports and not all of them include an airport diagram (which is really helpful for modelling it).

Making one is easy.  Just use construction paper!  Green for grass, Grey for runways, Light Grey for taxiways and parking areas.  Then little boxes with white roofs as hangers and buildings.  And a slightly taller box for the tower.  Then little hat pins for the lights on ends of the runway and for the instrument approach lights.

Don't forget to put some planes there too!  Again, just simple cutouts should work.

I'd stick to a small airport though.  A large airport like Chicago O'Hare or JFK is going to be a LOT of work!

I'm guessing the project is meant to teach you about the parts of an airport.  Also check the http://www.aopa.com site, they have some free online training about airport markings (signs, lines, etc.)  That will go a long way to making your model seem realistic, and I guarantee the teacher will be blown away by your "extensive research"!

I guess you have to create an account, but it's free:  https://www.aopa.org/asf/osc/loginform.c...
