What are the security rules for hand luggage at Manchester airport this summer (2008). The things I really want details about are:

Make-up

Drinks

Food

If I have bought all these things outside of the airport then can I take them on the plane? Only in certain amounts?

  1. Non-liquid makeup - no restrictions on this. Just carry what you normally do in your purse.

Liquid makeup - must be in a container that's 3 fluid ounces or smaller (check the bottle) and must be included in your 3-1-1 bag of liquids**.

Drinks - buy them in the terminal. They're not allowed through security.

Food - I also suggest buying this in the terminal, mostly for convenience.

Check your airline's website to see if they allow passengers to bring food on board; I'm pretty sure that most probably do, but it never hurts to be positively sure.

  2. I am assuming you mean Manchester, England.  British Airways has the most extensive listing of information on liquids in hand carry luggage that I have seen. There is no restriction on powdered makeup products; however, liquid products are subject to amount/size restrictions, ditto for the food and drink. You airline's website will usually have a page devoted to this information also.
