I am flying tomorrow from California to Nevada...I don't have a drivers license and I cant find my California I.D. card. Last time they made me show identification even though I am 17. Would my school I.D. work? I keep getting mixed answers I just want a straight to the point answer! Yes or no? Also I will be flying back to California...if one airport accepts a school I.D., will all airports accept it? I'd hate to be stranded in Las Vegas alone.

  1. Any type of identification will work.

  2. You can take a picture ID such as your school ID, and your birth certificate.  That will work.

Also, you can call your airline to ask what will be accepted - the airports usually defer to the airlines, and if they accept it in one state, they will accept it in the next one too.

  3. Yeah, it will work as long as its a very recent one (and it has your first and last name + photo) I flew to Alaska and flew back using my high school I.D (this was after they increased security at the airports too) I didnt even need my birth certificate

You shouldnt use it after you found your CA ID though. They would want you to have a government issued ID (strongly preferred)

  4. Take the ID that you have, and allow extra time at the airport for additional security screening.  The normal advice is to get to the airport 2 hours before flight time, so get there 3 hours before your flight is scheduled to depart.

Airlines only really want ID to make it harder for someone to use a ticket that isn't in their name.

Security (www.tsa.gov) wants ID as a matter of policy, but you can still fly w/o "official" ID after they put you through extra screening.
