Airport security, slightly unfair.?

Okay, long one.

I tried posting this months ago but it was removed.

My situation (last february). I arrive at the airport. Get to security. Nobody is there in line. I was wearing:

boxer shorts, windpants

a tee shirt and a sweatshirt over it.

white socks.

black shoes.

for the record, i wore the same outfit on my return trip, just to see what happened.

I walk up to the x-ray metal decector thing, and they go sir you need to step over here your sweatshirt is too large.

wtf? So they make me sit for 10 minutes, and as traffic picks up in the airport, i notice six teenages (not together) (like me) wearing similarly or larger sized sweatshirts walk right through without getting flagged. I was extremely infuriated with this. Sounds like purely a "I'm bored and want something to do" move on behalf of tsa?

While i was sitting there, a young man also walked through security wearing wide baggy pants (like the crotch down to his ankles). No flag.

A*** holes.

Why did this happen?

  1. You do know, that they pick passengers at random for special security?  Has nothing to do with what you're wearing in comparison to others.

The odds picked you that time, could happen to anyone.

  2. You were not harmed. It is over. Get over it and hope that that this is the worst thing that ever happens to you.

  3. Generally if you have a bulky outer garment they will just have you remove it and run it through the x-ray machine.

If you had already passed through the metal detector, they may have pulled you for a secondary.  You may have also already been selected for a secondary based on what was on your boarding pass.

Unfortunately, there's really no way to know without having been there.
