  1. i would take a car because there are no major airports that do into the city so you would pay alot more and because it is on the border i would take a car

  2. If it is just you then I would take a plane. If you have a family (lets say husband/wife and 2 kids) it would be hard to decide. Coming from me, i do not like staying on a plane. But I live in Virginia, so its longer. Hard question, but I would go with the plane.

Sorry I dont know about any airports.

  3. Agua Prieta is just across the border from southern Arizona. The nearest major airport would be Tucson, but you woul dhave to rent a car there and you woul dnot be allowed to take a rental car into Mexico. From southern California it is not a bad drive. You could stop in Tombstone and/or Bisbee, Arizona on the way.

My #1 piece of advice would be to try to get farther into the country than Agua Prieta. Border towns are never hte best examples of any country. It is safer, prettier and friendlier farther south.

Ditto on the comment not to let fear keep you away. Much of Mexico is safer than much of American. Just use common sense and enjoy your vacation.

  4. Sonora is the boondocks. You probably will enter mexico from s. arizona? Driving is fine and probably best, making sure that your vehicle is in top notch shape. I cannot stress this more.

i am not sure how much driving in Mexico you will do but if it will be more than 1-2 days, research the lay of the land, choosing overnight stay options. DO NOT PLAN ON DRIVING AT NIGHT!!!

In fact, plan your trip so that you arrive at a planned stop early enough to enjoy the towns center. Rest, dine, explore, but stay in well lit areas at night, and retire to your hotel room early, especially if you are traveling with loved ones...always pay attention to your surroundings and be safe! you can really have a wonderful time if you use common sense. ( and common travel sense in the states does not equal c. sense in Mexico.

  5. I would take a car to be safe.

  6. I think it would be eaiser and less expensive to drive your own car.The closet commercial airports would be in Phoenix or Tucson and you would have to rent a car to get to Agua Prieta.

Pay no attention to the posters who try to spread fear about Mexico.Agua Prieta/Douglas is a great twin city and I'm sure you will enjoy your visit...Buen Viaje!!

  7. Tucson is the right answer but check with your auto rental about driving in Mexico. I believe you can drive 25 miles inward of Mexico.  I think you can get special insurance.

Ive rented in el paso and driven to Juarez without a problem. Mexican rentals are very expensive compared to US rentals.
