  1. I would love to fly in an airship. I think it's a great idea. The only big problem in the wind and weather.

  2. I think the chief drawback would be flight speed.  It would probably go about twice as fast as a cruise ship.  Nowadays people are in a big hurry and most would still opt for jets.  It could probably be made incredibly energy efficient however and more spacious and luxurious then jet travel.  I have no doubt it could be made quite safe using modern technologies as well.  There is probably a market for it, particularly among tourists and vacationers.

  3. I would absolutely LOVE flying on a airship, but the Government thinks it's to dangerous. Blasted Gov.

  4. What do you mean begin, they are still there and are constantly being used :-) The Zeppelin NT (NT for New Technology) is a modern Airship that is manufactured by the same company that built the Hindenburg and Graf Zeppelin. Of course the Zeppelin NT has only 12 Passenger seats and a range of only 900 km but it's a success story. The Zeppelin Luftschifftechnick GmbH just finished their 4th Zeppelin which will soon be transported to the US before that it will fly across  London for July and August. Another Zeppelin NT is already flying in Japan and one in Germany unfortunately one got destroyed in a Storm making it only 3 active Zeppelins. But the Zeppelins aren't the only airships currently a lot of companies start to use small remote controlled airships as camera and surveillance platforms. There is a new company called Airship Surveillance who are getting money and contracts from investors for their remote controlled airships. And then there are ideas like the Aeroscraft a flying luxury Yacht an airship with lots of space that could be used instead of a coporate yet. Speedwise Airships will never be able to compete with Planes, but the Hindenburg reached 170km/h back in the oldendays so I think a modern day Airship of that size will easily be able to reach 200 km/h or more. Airships are coming back, more and more mainstream media pickup on it. The Guardian, the BBC and many more. I can only suggest to check out my Blog Airshipworld if you want to learn even more about Airships. They may seem like a thing form the past but the development is very current and new companies emerge all the time. We will see a renaissance of the airships they will not replace airplanes but they will provide a more comfortable and environmentally friendly way of travelling.

    Regards
