Airship with a bycicle?

I have in mind a zeppelin that is driven by a man riding a bicycle (placed at the bottom of the airship). I don't remember where I saw this aircraft - it was probobly in some cartoon, movie or comic book.

I want to get some pictures of it. But I don't know what should I type in Google. Does anybody know the movie that it was in, or something? Or the exact name of vehicle? So where can I find it?

  1. Hi,

there are/were a few pedal powered blimps around. One of the oldest ones was the White Dwarf that was previously mentioned, unfortunately it's envelope burst August last year and it wont fly again. Last I heard was that it is going to be donated to a Museum. You can read about the White Dwarf here, there is also a picture in the last post on that page

The most current one that also made the news is the Zeppy Airship by Stephane Rousson we featured it a few times on the blog even with Videos

But the Zeppy homepage http://www.zeppy.org/ had also just been relaunched it's in french but Google Language tools help here the english language link

  2. There are at least a couple of possibilities.

At the first link below, you can find information on the "White Dwarf," built and flown in 1984.  There are some pictures available there.

The idea was certainly not new, though.  At the second link below, you can find that a drawing of a similar design graced the cover of the September 1929 issue of Modern Mechanics and Inventions.  Inside the magazine, an article (which is also at the second link below) describes the inventor's intentions.

If this isn't exactly what you're looking for, I hope it starts you in the right direction.
