Airtel CLT20 match review: Chennai Super Kings v Wayamba

In yet another thrilling game of Champions League Twenty20, Chennai Super Kings crushed a minnow Wayamba team.
Put in to bat first on a pitch that supported batsmen proved worthy for Chennai Super Kings as they dismantled the rough bowling side of Wayamba. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Vijay-c78035’s batting was one of the highlights of today’s encounter between the
two uneven sides. Vijay was aggressive right from the start of the innings, driving deliveries to all corners of the ground for boundaries and sixes. The fifth over of the innings by Chanaka Welegedara which went for 19, gave him the momentum to carry on and
construct his innings in a much consolidated manner. Wayamba bowlers who did not seem to have learnt a lesson from his tactics earlier, continued to ball him full length and short deliveries, but Vijay read them well and the execution was correct, in a flash.
The Super Kings suffered an early blow in the 6th over of the game when a struggling Michael Hayden lost his wicket to Sri Lankan top spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajantha-c42419 Mendis for 10. Hayden was the only batsmen who did not look comfortable
in the centre, misjudging deliveries after deliveries before giving away his wicket. The departure of Hayden turned into a blessing in disguise, with the inclusion of India’s prolific middle order batsman Suresh Raina at the crease. Raina, who was in prime
form in the tournament got yet another opportunity to punish Wayamba bowlers, primarily from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Raina teamed up greatly with opener Murali Vijay who was slogging ever since the innings started. Both the batsmen put up an enchanting display of right hand and left hand batting, spifflicating the track of the game away from
the opponents. Raina flicked in some flourishing boundaries down the leg side and then pulled short length balls over the infield region quite a few times in the course of game. Both Vijay and Raina once set; started battling each other out, Raina bored Thisara
Perera for a four in the 10th over of the game and then hammered the quickie for an inside-out six. On the other hand, Vijay showed great temperament of aggression by lofting Perera over the mid wicket region for yet another six in the same over,
proving how deadly he could be in such circumstances.
But the real of Raina came into the match in 17th over of Chennai Super King’s innings when Ajantha Mendis was trusted on by his skipper to bowl at the depth of their innings. Sadly for him, things did not go well as
expected. The in-form Raina thrashed the young leg spinner all over the park. He smashed a total of 28 runs including four massive sixes down the leg side, changing completely the course of the match.  Hard hitting Raina went on to score a remarkable 87 just
off 42 balls including 6 sixes and as many boundaries. Vijay too fell soon after Raina’s dismissal off Welegedara, scoring 68 from 46 deliveries, scoring a match winning knock for sure. The dominant side led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820 finished off with a total
of exactly 200 on the board in their allotted 20 overs.
Wayamba were never well settled into the huge chase which was reflected clearly early on in their innings when Kulatunga fell to an out swinging delivery by Albie Morkel on the second ball of their very first over.  Skipper Jehan
Mubarak could not add much to their low score and went back to the pavilion after scoring a mere seven runs.  Jayawardena and Perera soon followed him as wickets continued to crumble in quick succession with Morkel and Bollinger destroying the top order batsman.
Ashwin supported the fast bowlers well and quickly wrapped up Wayamba’s tail in his four overs, grabbing four for 18 and playing his part in Chennai Super King’s 97 runs win over Wayamba in their first meeting. Suresh Raina, for his superb knock was declared
the man of the match.
