Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi donates to Pakistani flood victims – Tennis News
Pakistani Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi’s Foundation teamed up with ATP Aces for Charity to donate $10,000 to the 2010 flood victims of Pakistan and indirectly supported the United Nations Development Programme’s flood recovery activities
in the country.
Qureshi, ranked ninth in the ATP doubles rankings, showed his caring side by going to the flood affected areas in his country. His foundation co-ordinated with the ATP Aces for Charity to grant donation to the flood affected areas
in Pakistan.
“I am deeply impressed by the resilience and self-help spirit of the community,” said the p**i star, who recently won his second doubles title at Halle grass courts, at a community meeting held by the UNDP.
This is not the first time the affected areas received donation through tennis star. Bryan Brothers, ranked number one in the South African Airways ATP World Tour doubles rankings, contributed a similar amount by which nine families
were taken care in Bagho Teweno in the Dadu District.
UNDP is working across many flood hit districts. Through donations, they create jobs, build basic infrastructure and helps start public services in these areas. The current donation will go to Mazdoor Village in the district of
Thatta. When flood hit this area, 198 families lost their homes in this area, so the donation will help re-construct these houses, build solar powered street lights, re-continuation of communication infrastructure and livelihood training for females.
UNDP Pakistan’s director, Toshiro Tanaka, accompanied Qureshi in this noble cause.
“Restoring livelihoods and hope of the people from the devastation of the floods requires concerted efforts of everyone for a sustained period,” announced Tanaka. “We are grateful to the ATP World Tour and Aisam (Qureshi) for his
support to the people affected by the floods and for being a role model for every one of us.”
The Pakistani star is an active participant in these types of activities. He looks after the poor and the needy of the country and donated many times at natural disaster hit areas through his foundation. When the earthquake hit
Pakistan in 2006, he raised several funds and was an active member in the relief campaign.
