Real Madrid assistant coach Aitor Karanka has taken out time to speak in favour of the Portuguese centre-back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricardo-Carvalho-c30973.
The Spaniard jumped to defend Carvalho and explained the player’s importance to the club. Karanka also expressed that, despite having difficulties recently, the Portuguese defender is an excellent player and claimed that he is capable of doing many things
for the Spanish giants.
Carvalho recently received criticism after a poor showing in the match against Espanyol. The veteran defender hardly performed up to his mark and failed to impress throughout the game’s proceedings.
Real Madrid locked horns with Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabeu this past Sunday and to the joy of the Madrid faithful, the hosts were able to secure a very convincing 5-0 victory over the Catalan side.
Although it was a remarkable performance by Jose Mourinho’s men, Carvalho was found to be the weakest link in the line-up.
The Portuguese has only made 12 appearances for Los Merengues this season, the 12th being Sunday’s game.
The defender misplaced a back-pass which could have led to a goal for Espanyol and was found unable to carry out his defensive duties effectively.
The 33-year-old picked up a booking in the first half and was replaced at the break, making way for youngster the young Raphael Varane.
The Portuguese international has hardly featured for Los Vikingos in this season’s campaign and could not manage to play an important in Real Madrid’s success.
However, Karanka has backed the player and has stated that it’s about time that Carvalho regains his touch.
While talking to the reporters, the 38-year-old was quoted as saying:
"He was an important player last season and he should be supported by all. It usually happens with a player of his experience. He wants to play and show more of what he can do, and whatever happens, there is more haste.”
"He had a card and in another play he could have picked up another."
The Santiago Bernabeu outfit continue to maintain their-10 point lead at the top of the Spanish La Liga’s standings and set to face Real Betis in their next league match.
