When quizzed about Mesut Ozil’s half time substitution and Angel Di Maria’s fatigue, Karanka revealed that it was a tactical decision to sub the German playmaker, whilst stating that there is nothing wrong with El Fideo.
"The change of Ozil has been a tactical decision. At that point, we decided it was him."
"He plays at a high level and is over tired and fatigued, but no more," Karanka said while downplaying suggestions about a possible injury to Di Maria.
Reflecting on Kaka’s debut in La Liga, Karanka reaffirmed the faith of the club’s trust in the attacking midfielder’s abilities, sharing that the Brazilian did not disappoint with his foray on the pitch.
