Aja Van Hout wins Women’s 200m IM title: Day four – USA Swimming Sectionals, Iowa City
Aja R Van Hout of Badger Aquatics won the title of Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on the fourth day of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals in Iowa City, on Sunday, July 24.
The 18-year-old Van Hout won the hearts of arena by winning the gold medal of 200m IM event in a time equivalent to the National Championships mark of 2 minutes and 20.69 seconds. She was followed by Abigail Duncan of Aquajets Swim Team, who remained only
0.17 seconds behind her and reached the podium for the silver medal, by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 20.86 seconds.
The 18-year-old Duncan defeated her following swimmer, Ashley Wanland of Wisconsin Aquatics, with a difference of only 0.49 seconds. Wanland stood on the podium for the bronze medal, as she clocked a third fastest time of 2 minutes and 21.35 seconds.
Despite of her wonderful winning effort, the gold medallist failed to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics Trials, as her time was 1.20 seconds behind the trials qualification criteria of 2 minutes and 19.49 seconds.
The fourth fastest spot of the swim was secured by Wanland’s team-member, Monika Stitski, who stayed only 0.22 seconds away from her and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 21.57 seconds. Lakeside Swim Team’s Meredith King claimed the fifth best spot of the
swim, as she reported in a time of 2 minutes and 21.72 seconds. Stitski’s team-member, Jennah L Haney followed King on the concluding wall for the sixth finest spot, as she completed her four-lap swim in 2 minutes and 23.84 seconds.
Haley J Gordon of Club Hawkeye-IA was the seventh position holder of the event, as she ended her swim in 2 minutes and 24.29 seconds. Furthermore, Hannah M Ross of Unattached-WI was disqualified in the final lap because of using breast-stroke kicks.
In addition, the arena enjoyed the tremendous swims of all participants, while the winners collected awards and accolades for their superior swims in the IM event after the completion of session.
