Cricket Sri Lanka revealed their 16-man squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa, on Tuesday, November 22, 2011.
Ajantha Mendis, the right-arm unorthodox spinner, has found his way back into the Lankan side after recovering from a back injury. Sri Lanka’s excursion of South Africa commences from Thursday, December
15, 2011 with a Test match at SuperSport Park, Centurion.
Mendis’ inclusion means that right-arm off-spinner, Suraj Randiv, will have to sit out of the team. The off-spinner exhibited a lacklustre performance during the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and scaled
only two wickets at an average of 47.50.
Mendis complained of having a sore back during the One-Day International series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in September. The pain became unbearable and forced him out of the Test series which followed the ODI
series. The spinner was also not included in the squad that is currently playing Pakistan in the United Arab Emirate (UAE).
Another player to make his return to Sri Lankan Test team is right-arm pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CRD-Fernando-c1292. The speedster has been recalled into the outfits, as Dhammika Prasad is still recuperating from a muscle
injury that he picked during the ODI’s against Pakistan.
The Sri Lankan cricket team has been slipping in International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397, the middle-order
batsman, is the latest inductee in the list of injured players.
Jayawardene picked up knee injury on Sunday and had to abandon his team mates in UAE to fly back home. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anura-Punchi-Banda-Tennekoon-c45208, Sri Lankan team manager, made the news public. The team manager also named Jayawardene’s
replacement.

The availability of Jayawardene for the Proteas tour is still not clear, though he has been included in the outfits.
